Schanuel to IL, Lugo DFA’d

The LA Angels have made some key moves today:

Nolan Schanuel is going on the Injured List (retro to May 24).

Schanuel said he underwent an MRI exam on his calf. Today was the worst it’s felt, as he tested it out yesterday, but it made it feel worse. He’s not sure how long he’ll be out just yet.

Matthew Lugo has been designated for assignment. He could return on minor league deal if he clears waivers.

Lugo was once a top 30 prospect for Angels. He was acquired in the Luis Garcia trade in 2024. Lugo didn’t play in Majors in 2026.

Tell your Friends! The LA Angels have selected the contract of INF Nick Madrigal. He will take Lugo’s spot on the 40-man.

Madrigal signed a minor league contract with the Angels back in January. A 5-year MLB veteran now has a chance to play in the MLB for the 1st time since 2024.
