The Angels were not sellers this trade deadline despite a losing record but they did not acquire anyone big. Here’s what they did:
-Garcia and Chafin Trade:
The Angels are acquired RHP Luis Garcia and LHP Andrew Chafin from the Nationals. LHP Jake Eder and another minor leaguer are head back to Washington.
Garcia is back on the Angels for a 3rd stint, 4.10 ERA and 31 K in 37.1 IP this season.
Chafin is a veteran left-handed reliever, 2.70 ERA and 18 K in 20 IP this season.
Angels Triple-A pitcher Jake Eder (2-7, 6.11 ERA) and Class AA 1B Sam Brown (.244, 5 HRs, 40 RBI, .708 OPS) are going to Washington in the deal for Chafin and Garcia.
-Peraza trade:
The Angels are sending minor league outfielder Wilberson De Peña and international bonus pool money to the Yankees for Oswald Peraza.
Peraza was once a top prospect but he hasn’t done well in the majors early in his career. He’s under control for four more years after this.
Kevin Newman was DFA’d to add Peraza.
Small moves in trade deadline. Let’s see if it’ll help them.
